Succesful design of the switchmode power supply is a combination of many factors, like:
- behaviour of the load,
- chosen power conversion topology,
- availability/cost of parts used for design,
- environmental conditions,
- efficiency,
- behaviour at rapid load or input changes, including possible negative impedance effect revealed by input filter,
- manufacturability.

The final product must meet the following:
- EU EMC Directive,
- user safety regulations - EU LVD Directive, if applicable.
